Got questions?

How long does sharpening take?
Most knives take just a few minutes each. A typical set of 5–8 knives can be done in 30–45 minutes. We offer while-you-wait service for drop-offs and will complete jobs same-day whenever possible.
Will sharpening wear down my knives?
Professional sharpening done correctly removes a very small, controlled amount of steel — we're talking microns. A quality knife sharpened regularly will outlast a cheap knife that's never sharpened. Think of it like an oil change, not an engine rebuild.
Do you sharpen Japanese knives?
Yes! Japanese knives (including single-bevel knives like Yanagiba and Deba, and double-bevel like Gyuto) are handled with special care. Japanese steel is harder and requires a finer angle — we know the difference. A small premium applies for single-bevel work.
Do you sharpen ceramic knives?
Ceramic knives require specialized diamond equipment and are not currently accepted. Text us first if you are unsure what material your blade is made from.
What payment methods do you accept?
Payment is collected in person at drop-off, pickup, delivery, or time of service. We accept cash, card, or digital payment. Credit card payments include a 2.6% processing fee, plus any applicable tax. You'll always know the sharpening price upfront before we start.
How do I know when my knives need sharpening?
The classic test: try slicing a ripe tomato without pressing down. If it squashes instead of slices, your knife needs sharpening. For most home cooks, every 3–6 months is ideal. For daily professional use, monthly service makes a real difference in your work and safety.
What area does mobile service cover?
Mobile On-Site Sharpening: $90 base rate. Includes on-site service and our 5-Knife Bundle. Any extra knives are added at standard rates. Pickup & Return has a $55 minimum total order: $35 round-trip delivery fee (standard Honolulu area) + $20 sharpening minimum (covers at least 2 standard knives or any mix of blades). When can I drop off my knives?
Drop-off is by confirmed appointment at our Kalihi home shop: Monday–Friday after 4 PM, and Saturday and Sunday by appointment. We send the exact address after confirming your time.
